Dustin Minty

Owner/Head Trainer

From a young age Dustin loved sports. He began to skate at the age of 1 and started playing organized hockey at the age of 5. He played baseball and rugby throughout high school. He started officiating minor hockey at 12 and junior hockey at the age of 21. He used to work out in a global gym thinking he was fit (but was far from it). In 2011 coming off an ankle/foot injury he found Crossfit using in to get back into shape to help with his officiating (which he now does major junior hockey). After falling in love with Crossfit he began trainer more and competes in it as a sport (In 2014 3rd place at The Okanagan Valley Throwdown, 5th place at Sweatfest and in 2015 4th place at The Okanagan Valley Throwdown). He now takes that love for Crossfit and fitness sharing it to as many clients/athletes as he can.

Brent Hayter

Trainer/Head Kinesioligist

A former Junior A and Collegiate hockey player with over 15 years of teaching and training experience, I started CrossFit South Okanagan 4 years ago in my yard with the mission to create a community of people who valued and understood true fitness and performance. During the day I teach full time at Glenrosa Middle School where I teach Human Performance, PE and run the Glenrosa Middle School High Performance Hockey Academy with my colleague, friend and fellow CrossFit nut Anthony Greer. Running CFSO in the mornings and evenings and seeing the community grow and people succeed is a passion for me rivalled only  by my love for my beautiful wife and three children (14,14&18). Without them I could not have done any of this, thanks guys.

Trainer

A former Collegiate (NCAA) hockey player who has played many sports over the years.  My true journey with health and fitness began in January 2010 when Coach Brent, a colleague of mine at Glenrosa Middle School, and I began planning a High Performance Hockey Academy.  A program I am proud to still be a part of today.  At the time, it became clear that I needed to improve my fitness level so Brent took me on as a “client” to immerse me in the world of CrossFit.  After a few months of one on one instruction I was hooked, obtained my Level 1 certification and since then, have enjoyed the journey of transforming my body & mind into a more focused coach & athlete.  I enjoy the opportunity of working with all types of people in meeting their fitness goals.  I strive to maintain and constantly improve my own “quality of life” through CrossFit while being supported at home by my loving wife, Nicole and our two pugs.

Brendan Messer

Trainer

Former basketball player, decent golfer, and someone who genuinely loves sports… you name it, I generally like it. During the day, Brendan teaches full time at Glenrosa Middle School.

“I have achieved greatness, only because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” In this case, greatness is just not being a CrossFit Level One instructor (although that is pretty greatJ) It might mean that I improve workout times, overcome various obstacles and immobilities, push the limits my over 40 body can do, or just hang out in Peachland with my family (a great wife and two superstar kids).

In terms of giants… maybe this refers to Coach Hayter. I don’t really remember standing on Brent’s clunky shoulders, but he did encourage me to join CrossFit years ago at school, and I tinkered with it, and then began to really follow it and love it. Now I get to follow great athletes and people all the time at CrossFit SouthOkanagan… in some ways they are the giants. Like really, who can do a Walker Up, transform like a Minty, or Paleo like Carleen? It’s just fun.

Joey Williams

Trainer

Receiving a Diploma in Human Kinetics at Langara College in 2011, I started a fitness career in downtown Vancouver, working freelance as a personal trainer at the YWCA and other various locations. After a couple of years in the city, and seeing tireless amounts of bicep curls and bosu squats I decided I had enough and wanted to further my knowledge of the body, and just my luck an opportunity had arisen. I relocated to the Okanagan to finish my Degree in Human Kinetics and have made it my goal to become a Physiotherapist.

Once I settled down my first mission was to find a new gym…. and  in the fall of 2012 I registered as a student at CrossFit South Okanagan and his life has not been the same since. I have since taken the values from the “Box” and  applied them to my life and schooling. You could say it’s been life changing experience!
