We are not a group exercise class or a boot camp facility. Prior to graduating to group classes, you will complete 10-20 private one on one session that will properly prepare you for the demands of group classes.
Learning movements that are required for improved fitness – movements like squats, snatches and pull-ups – take time, as does improving your mobility, your endurance, your speed and your power.
We used to throw people into group classes right away, but we found this to be a recipe for failure. Students weren’t prepared; they didn’t move well; they didn’t understand their capabilities; they over-trained; they got injured. Or they were simply too intimidated to even show up to a class.
Improving your fitness is a slow process. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when they show up at our doors. Some students struggle with mobility, others with stability, others yet come to us two months after having knee surgery and need to be tended with care. And on the other end of the spectrum, some athletes arrive at our door well conditioned with an extensive athletic background.
The point is we all have different needs when we start a new strength and conditioning program. It doesn’t make sense to throw you right into classes before you have properly learned the movements. So at our school, by the time you graduate to classes, you’ll have a good understanding of 30-40 movements, and you will know exactly how to scale each movement if you’re not yet able to master everything.
This also means that by the time you get to classes you will feel confident and comfortable showing up to hit the workout with the group.
CrossFit Group Class
We offer classes at 5:30 am, 6:30 am, 9:30 am, Noon, 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm (M,W,F) 5:30 am, 9:30 am, Noon, 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm (T, Th). Saturday we have 7am class and 8am open gym. We offer more classes than any other CrossFit affiliate in the area.
We know you have a busy and hectic schedule, and since we have more coaches and apprentice coaches than any other local CrossFit facility, we have the ability to offer more classes.
But more than this, our morning coaches do not coach in the evenings, and our evening coaches do no coach in the mornings on the same day. This means that you will not be coached by a tired, burnt out coach at 6 pm. Our coaches work a manageable 20 to 30 hours a week, so they have plenty of energy to give to each student and each class.
We don’t just offer personal training and group classes. We offer both seasonal and ongoing specialty programs for students who are looking to work on their weaknesses, or for students who just want to mix it up a bit.
Olympic lifting w/ Chris Hanon
Nutrition workshops and challenges
Tough Mudder and Freakin Farmer Teams
Our specialty programs help students tackle their weaknesses, and they simply provide more options for experienced students who want to try something new.
CrossFit Preschool (4-6 year olds)
What a wonderful way to expose your kids to and/or reinforce the joy of movement through games, body control movements, basic gymnastic skills ( rolling, sommersaults, handstands, pullup, climbing etc.). Not to mention neat conversations to help reinforce what things are good for your body and mind, what foods are healthy for you, sharing and getting along with others. These sessions run 2 times a week for 30 minutes, parents MUST ATTEND WITH YOUR CHILD and stay to watch. Making fitness and wellness a permanent part of your child’s life will set them up for success in school, sport and life in general. Instructor to child ratio 1:6-8 depending on class composition and needs.
CrossFit Kids (Elementary Grades 1-5 & Middle School Grades 6-8)
Perfect for your little-r kids, needing to burn off some energy. Classes are centered around having fun, learning new skills and moving correctly. Programming predominantly incorporates gymnastics movements and body-weight exercises. Our kids love to imitate what their parents do, CrossFit Kids is a great way to get your child excited and motivated to make fitness a part of their lives.
Teen (Grades 9 -11)
Whether your child wants to become a star athlete or simply get fitter for everyday life, our Teen program will help them develop a lifelong love of fitness. Our programming is designed specifically for this time in their developmental lives. In a group setting, teens participate in fun and engaging workouts that deliver measurable results and prepare them to be well- rounded athletes. The camaraderie and support by fellow athletes is a unique and key element to our youth programs success. You can expect to see you teen gain strength, agility, speed, cognition and improved posture simply by joining our teen program.
The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do when they play-pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of thoroughly trained CrossFit Trainers. With workouts that are scalable, our teen programs can equally benefit a person who is less active or an accomplished athlete by tailoring workouts so that each participant is challenged just enough to deliver measurable results and personal athletic progress.
There are many elements that go into making a world-class facility. From the training components like having enough space and equipment to practical components like free parking. Our facility has all the necessary components to help you get fit and stay fit for life.
Inconveniences like parking are enough to deter you from going to the gym at all. Things like having plenty of natural light, a lot of floor space and high ceilings might seem like small peanuts, but when they’re taken away, people notice.
In short, everything runs more smoothly when things are convenient.
We have been around for 5 years – we have learned through trial and error what people need and want from their training facility.
The strength in our Facility lies in our community. From Potlucks, to beach parties, to fitness competitions like Wodtoberfest and the Okanagan Throwdown, our students are more than just fitness junkies.
Fitness is something that should make your life better; it’s not something we think should dominate your life. We believe it’s important to be well-rounded people who know how to let loose, have a drink and socialize with friends.
And, we have learned that students who are engaged in the community are more likely to want to show up to the box to workout – because they show up not just to workout, but also to enjoy themselves socially.
